This Oxygen tester is used to indicate the balance of electrons in the aquarium water.
Water with a high redox potential is of high quality containing much surplus oxygen and a minimum of organic waste material. Water with a low redox potential would in contrast be slow moving and cloudy and contains waste material that has not been broken down.
This waste material causes stress and is harmful to aquatic life and may even cause death.
To serve as a guide the following readings are desirable:
Marine Water -300 to 450mV
Freshwater -200mV or higher.
